Today I learned that my grandmother’s birth name was not Anne, or even Anna, but Chana, which probably translates more accurately to Hana/Hanah/Hannah.

This all started when I asked my dad if she had a middle name. He was looking at her birth certificate, which is in Polish, and couldn’t see one. He emailed it to me. My friend, who speaks Polish, helped me translate the typed parts, along with Google Translator, but we can’t make out the handwriting in most of the written parts.

This is really exciting for me. My dad and I really like geneology stuff like this. The coolest part is the one I’m still checking up on. Several translators have given me the same thing, but it doesn’t really make sense logically. It seems that her father’s parents are listed, though not her own parents. Somehow that doesn’t seem right.
